Displaying a remarkable surgical experience, doctors at Stirling Hospitals successfully treated patients who sustained massive burns in a house blast in Morbi. A 3-year-old child suffered 50 to 60 per cent burns, his father suffered 75 per cent burns and the woman sustained 90 per cent burns, among other serious injuries. Dr. Trauma Surgeon at Stirling Hospitals. Mayur Vaghela and his team successfully performed this complex treatment, with all three patients now discharged without any complications.
Significantly, salvage treatment is challenging in more than 50 percent of burn patients, yet all three patients mentioned above were treated successfully. If children burn 55 percent of their body, they have the same risk as an adult with 100 percent burns. Saving 90 percent of burn patients is considered a miracle, because so far in the world very few patients have survived 90 percent of burn patients.
About the complications associated with this surgery, Dr. Mayur Vaghela said, “Severely burned patients may require early tracheostomy to relieve airway obstruction. We have presented a new method, in which the eschar (dry, thick crust) is removed daily under anesthesia in the operating theatre, to help prevent sepsis and infection in severe burn cases. This approach has so far succeeded in saving the lives of many patients.”
Dr. Dr. Vaghela Sankalp Vanzara (Head of Department, Critical Care), Dr. Kunal Desai (General Physician and Intensivist), Dr. Kritarth Kanjia (Infectious Disease Specialist) and Dr. Urvi Sanghvi (Pediatric Intensivist) treated this critical case with excellent care. This multidisciplinary team has played a key role in improving and stabilizing patients by working shoulder to shoulder, especially in treating patients with severe burns or other critical conditions.
Shri Raj Kadecha, Zonal Director of Stirling Hospitals said, “The unit is managed by experienced doctors and trained nursing staff. Also our hospital is equipped with laparoscopic, trauma and non-infectious operating theatres, equipped with C-100 Linar airflow and HEPA filters. So far more than 100 patients have been successfully treated and revived by our specialized burns unit. Our team of doctors and paramedics have demonstrated the clinical expertise of our group in patient care. With these various cases, I want to assure people that Stirling Hospitals are always ready to treat patients during critical situations.”
