According to the Compendium on Sedimentation of Reservoirs in India 2020 survey report conducted by the Central Water Commission (CWC), only 59 of the 207 reservoirs in the state have been surveyed from 1981 to 2013. The storage capacity of 59 reservoirs has decreased by 2, 35, 967 crore liters of water due to silt rushing with water inflow into the reservoirs during monsoon. At the time the reservoir was built, the total water storage capacity was 16,32,715 crore litres. In the survey, the total storage capacity of these reservoirs has decreased to 13, 96, 447 crore liters. That is, 59 reservoirs have lost 14. 45% water storage capacity.
If the condition of 5 zones of the state is seen, 1, 81, 138 crore liters of water is being stored with a decrease of 11. 88% against the total capacity of 2, 05, 551 crore liters of 8 reservoirs of North Gujarat. Apart from this, 2, 19, 438 crore liters of water is being stored with a decrease of 18.92% against the total capacity of 2, 70, 639 crore liters of 9 reservoirs of Central Gujarat, against the total storage capacity of 9, 81, 815 crore liters of 6 reservoirs of South Gujarat. 12. 8, 57, 120 crore liters of water is being stored with a decrease of 70%.
