A Decade-Old Social Initiative Returns to Ensure Medical Assistance During Festive Holidays; Citizens Can Access Timely Medical Advice Through a Single Phone Call
AHMEDABAD, NOVEMBER 5: While Ahmedabad gears up to celebrate Diwali with lights, festivities and family gatherings, the city’s medical fraternity is ensuring that health concerns do not dampen the festive spirit. In a significant public welfare initiative, the Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and the Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association (AFPA) have jointly launched their annual ‘Doctor on Call’ service, offering citizens free preliminary medical guidance and assistance during the Diwali holidays.
Continuing a healthcare tradition that has been serving Ahmedabad for over a decade, the initiative aims to bridge the gap in medical accessibility during festive breaks, when several private clinics remain closed or operate with limited hours. The service will ensure that residents do not have to struggle to find medical advice in case of sudden health complications or unexpected medical concerns during the celebrations.
One Phone Call, Timely Medical Guidance
Under this initiative, a dedicated team of primary coordinators will receive calls from citizens and provide immediate preliminary medical guidance free of cost. In cases requiring further medical attention, specialist consultation or assistance during medical emergencies, the coordination team will facilitate contact with the relevant doctors and specialists to help patients access appropriate medical advice and care.
The primary coordination team comprises Dr. Dhiren Mehta (9898854158), Dr. Ashwin Shah (9824038816), Dr. Sunil Patel (9879225294), Dr. Ramesh Patel (9426495264), Dr. Jyotindra Mehta (9825039653) and Dr. Parth Patel (9924119779).
Healthcare Beyond Clinic Hours: Doctors Reaffirm Social Commitment
Emphasising the importance of accessible healthcare during festive holidays, AMA President Dr. Kalpita Dave, Honorary Secretary Dr. Maulik Sheth and AFPA President Dr. Ramesh I. Patel said that the initiative reflects the medical fraternity’s commitment to ensuring that no citizen feels helpless or isolated due to a health-related concern during the festive season.
They highlighted that the primary objective is to extend timely medical guidance to citizens when regular healthcare facilities may not be readily accessible.
Through this decade-old tradition, AMA and AFPA are reaffirming that healthcare and compassion must never take a holiday—even during Diwali.
