India’s Spiritual Legacy Takes Centre Stage Globally: Swami Shivkrupanand Ji Appointed Vice Chair of World Meditation Day Governance Committee

Historic Global Recognition for Indian Meditation Guru to Strengthen India’s Spiritual Influence and Promote World Peace

Ahmedabad: In a significant milestone for India’s spiritual heritage and global cultural influence, Param Pujya Shri Shivkrupanand Swamiji, the revered Indian spiritual master and founder of Himalayan Samarpan Meditation, has been appointed Vice Chair of the World Meditation Day Governance Committee and Chairperson for the South Asia region.

The appointment was officially announced through a joint agreement between the World Meditation Day Association and the World Meditation Foundation. Swamiji will represent India in a high-level international leadership forum alongside global representatives, including Executive Chair Enrico Somma, representing Liechtenstein.

The development coincides with the global observance of World Meditation Day on December 21, an initiative promoting mindfulness, inner balance and collective consciousness. The official global platform and governance portal are scheduled to be unveiled at the upcoming 2nd International Symposium on AI + Meditation, highlighting the growing connection between ancient Himalayan wisdom and emerging technologies.

India’s Spiritual Heritage Gains Global Recognition

India has long been recognised as the birthplace of transformative traditions such as yoga and meditation. Following the worldwide acceptance of International Yoga Day, Swamiji’s appointment further highlights India’s potential to promote peace, well-being and the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family.

“World peace can never come through books or weapons alone; it can begin only with inner peace,” Swamiji said, emphasising that meditation encourages self-realisation, transcends divisions of religion, caste and nationality, and nurtures universal brotherhood.

Three Decades of Free Meditation Across 72 Countries

After spending 18 years in intensive spiritual practice in the Himalayas, Swamiji founded Himalayan Samarpan Meditation in 1994. Over the past three decades, he has dedicated himself to teaching meditation free of charge to more than three million practitioners across over 72 countries.

His work has reached international and national institutions, including the United Nations, the Indian Parliament, the British Parliament, the German Parliament, and the legislatures of Ireland, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

He has also addressed academic and leadership forums at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and the University of Cambridge’s Wolfson College, alongside leading Indian institutions such as IITs and IIMs.

His meditation initiatives have extended to the Indian Armed Forces, police organisations, the judiciary and scientific institutions, including ISRO, BARC and DRDO.

Swamiji has received several international honours, including the Global Peace and Wellness Ambassador Award from the UK House of Lords in 2024 and recognition for global peace and conscious leadership.

Bridging Ancient Wisdom with Artificial Intelligence

As artificial intelligence and digital connectivity reshape everyday life, the World Meditation Day initiative aims to establish meditation as an essential foundation for mental balance, emotional resilience and responsible technological progress.

With meditation centres across India, North America, Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia, Swamiji’s new international responsibilities are expected to strengthen cross-border cooperation and expand meditation-based well-being initiatives.

The appointment represents an important opportunity to bring India’s timeless spiritual wisdom to a world increasingly seeking inner peace, harmony and a more balanced way of living.
