Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said that the scepter gifted by Thiruvaduthurai Adhinam will be consecrated by 20 Adhinams of the state and placed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi near the seat of the Lok Sabha Speaker at the New Parliament Building on the 28th of this month. Modi.
Speaking to the media in Chennai, she said that this commemorates an event that took place during Independence Day in 1947.
The Minister said that this is a unique event which gives a special place to Tamil Nadu. She said that the scepter does not signify monarchy, rather it signifies just rule for the people of the country. Responding to a question about the stand taken by the opposition parties, the finance minister said Parliament is the temple of democracy and everyone should be given due respect and appealed to the opposition parties to reconsider the boycott. Mrs. Sitharaman pointed out that political parties which used to verbally abuse the President coming from a tribal community are now talking about the importance of the President in the inauguration of Parliament.
She mentioned the inauguration of the Chhattisgarh State Legislative Assembly by Sonia Gandhi and the inauguration of the Telangana Legislative Assembly by the Chief Minister of that state. The Finance Minister said that the scepter to be installed in Parliament represents a cultural link and refers to the Hindu God in Indonesia’s currency. Ms. Sitharaman said that the decision to keep the scepter in Parliament was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a letter from noted artist Dr. Padma Subramaniam.
